It had been the plan for months on my 32nd birthday I was going to get my first tattoo. Last Friday that day came. My Junk Hunk and few friends gathered to celebrate. By the end of the night we all had been inked! I heart junk and Kasey is the Junk Star. Still in the healing process, but we had to share!

We celebrated the last weekend in March with our Hello Spring Vintage Market. The shop was blooming with sweet junk. Last weekend kicked off the beginning of 5 crazy weeks. Our March Market was a great success it was so nice to see familiar faces and great to see fresh new ones. The craziness will continue. We are very excited to announce that we will be a vendor at the Junk Jubilee April 8,9, and 10th. We have a little over a week to prepare, but we've got some good leads on some cool junk to go rescue!! And if you just can't get enough, our April Market will be the 23 & 24. Last weekend was our February Vintage Market. We were blessed with beautiful weather. It was Spring in February! As the line grew outside waiting for our 9:00 open, so did the butterflies in my tummy. Shhh here's a little secret. I get sooo nervous before we open the doors. This isn't just a job, its our passion, our 3rd baby if you will. I always want you to enjoy yourself and have a great time!

We had an amazing market weekend. Lots of familiar faces and new ones too! We are so excited to go junking and get working on March's Market. So, save the date March 26 & 27. Here are a few pictures from last weekend.

For the next week every moment will be consumed with getting ready for our vintage market next weekend. Its the kick- off of our monthly markets, which we are so excited about. It will give us a opportunity to be creative in ways we weren't able to be when setting up on the farm.

I have many lists, as does the junk hunk for things we want to get done before next weekend. I got to check this project off my list last night YAY!! The month of love inspired these cute little pins. I made a bunch up last night. No, not in my workshop, but on the couch with my girls both asleep on either side of me. No glamorous craft room here and I came to the realization that I have a major obsession with all things paper. There are stacks of books, dictionaries(9 that I counted in the house), sheet music, and ledger paper all over the place. That doesn't include what out in our buildings, but hey I just can't resist.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend. We'll be painting, sealing, sanding, maybe sneaking away to an auction, and more sanding, painting.....you get the picture:)

J is for Junk!

The day after Thanksgiving I dragged myself out of bed and met up with one of my best friends at 4:30AM. Why? Because of 1 item on sale that Black Friday morning. I must say I was a Black Friday virgin. Never had I woke up before the crack of dawn for any sale except a junk sale of course!

What on earth was this amazing item? A Cricut Expression 50% OFF. We waited in line for an hour in the cold. I have never seen such chaos. I was triumphant and let me just say my little cricut has opend so many repurposing doors.

Finally this leads me to the picture. This is our newest piece of jewelry. A vinyl "J" sits upon an old optical lense and with a little touch of ephemera it makes a beautiful pendent.

Oh how I love JUNK! Rumor has it that you can make this at our January Junk Club!

Tis The Season For Jolly Junk!

Finally, some pictures from our newly restored shop!! The past 2 months have been a blur. November 1st changed our lives forever. The second the building was ours we began a month long labor of love. We did it all from tearing down walls, exposing brick, refinishing the hardwood floors, painting, updating the electric, plumbing and heating. Without the help of our family and friends we would never have been ready for our grand opening that was on Dec. 4th.

We are so excited to have a place our junk can call home. Located in our town of Earlham, Ia, starting in February our shop will be open 1 weekend a month. All of the excitement and anticipation of our markets can now be enjoyed every month!!

The Secrets Out!

We can't keep it in any longer!! Kasey and I are so excited to tell you that we are the proud new owners of an old building in Earlham. This is our biggest rescued find yet! She needs a lot of demo and some paint, but its going to be beautiful. Hidden above the drop ceiling is the original tin ceiling!! Beneath layers of carpet is the original wood floors. Yes, there will be lots of before, during, and after pictures to come!!

So, what does the future look like for Old Crow Farm? First, our shop name will be Rescued Junk by Old Crow Farm. Be looking for our new/old name. Next, our plan right now is to have monthly occasional sales, so there will be no more waiting months in between! And the most important question when will we open? Get ready, get set for Jolly Junk! Yes, we will open our doors on December 4th for our Jolly Junk vintage market!

For those of you who have missed our Junk Clubs for the past few months we will have a December club night that will be announced very soon! We are very excited that this will be the first Junk Club in our new building and even better you get to shop!!

We are so thankful for all of you who come to our markets and etsy shop. Junk is what we love and its so much fun to see all of your happy faces. We hope that you will come visit us on December 4th to celebrate the season and check out Rescued Junk by Old Crow Farm.

Junk + Family + Friends = A Great Life

This past weekend has me thinking.....family and junking are all a girl really needs. Old Crow is a family affair! Moms, dads, sisters, brothers, grandmas, grandpas, husbands, wives, toddlers, cousins, and friends who are like family all help in making what Old Crow is today.

Kasey and I are blessed to have all of these people in our lives. We all put in countless hours. From our moms, grandma, cousin, and aunts who help take care of our girls while we hunt, clean, and pretty up our junk to our friends who help us clean, organize, and price the many piles of junk. They are our Crow Crew!

Our barn, the junk, the smiles, the sweat, the laughter, the snuggles, the “ah ha moments”, and even sometimes the tears is what life is all about.

We love and even giggle when our family brings us junk! They have been trained to never leave a piece of junk behind. Especially, without asking Kasey or jojo first!

There will always be good junk. That I know, but family can’t be taken for granted. This weekend my dad was visiting us from Colorado. We had 3 days to enjoy with him. It turned out to be 6, one would think 3 extra days yay! But, they were spent in the hospital. On Saturday we had to take my dad to the ER. 6 hours later we found out he had blood clots and would have to stay in the hospital until today. He is doing much better and is being treated with medication. Thank god! Life truly is so precious.

Our families make Old Crow possible. With their love and support Kasey and I get to do what we love. Of course thats rescuing cool junk! This is our first big work weekend and the grandmas are on call. There’s about 4 weeks or so until the Bonanza and the Crow Crew is ready!

The Countdown

Summer has just seemed to escape me. You all know how bad I can be about blogging during the summer! Terrible I know. My summer has consisted of junking, playdates, etsy, fun in the sun, and more junking!

Normally, we only have 3 markets a year, but we could resist an longer and so we're headed to the Junk Bonanza in just a little over a month from now. We've been hoarding junk all summer long. You can always tell when a sale is getting near because our building is overflowing.

So you know what happens when the buildings full? The junk begins to creep out on to our rock drive.

This is the view of the junk pile outside it's starting to accumulate!

Lots of fun projects to complete, diamonds in the rust that need to be cleaned, sanding and sealing to be done. I'd say this next month is going to fly by! I'm hoping to get back on track with my blogging too. Sweet junk dreams to all!

Junk Club Past & Future

I have been wanting to let you in on the surprise project from our June Junk Club. So, the project.....a little something for you to pamper yourself. Ephemera Necklaces! Our June Junkies had box loads of ephemera to select from and a few other embellishments too! These are some of their designs. The creativity of our Junkies blows me away. I love being surrounded by all that talent!!

You can find OC designed Ephemera Necklaces in our Etsy shop. We'll be taking the to them Bonanza too and of course you'll be seeing them at our Harvest Market!

Our next club night is Friday, July 30th. Click Here for Project Details! We start at 7 and scheduled until 9, but lots of times we're having fun until 10. Junk Days of Summer

Where to begin! I'm a live...... NO, I haven't fallen in a hole somewhere while junking, but it sure does seem like it. Especially, with my lack of blogging the past weeks. This summer is flashing before me like a dream. Popsicles, sunbathing by the kiddy pool, and Junking!

I have so much I want to share with you all! We have been junking like mad. Stocking up for the Junk Bonanza and our Harvest Market. Junking Rule No. 1 - NEVER go far from home without a trailer. Thanks goodness we spent Friday afternoon unloading it! We headed out early Saturday morning to a sale. You never no what to expect. It was a good sale. Lots of competition, but we held our own. However, what made the day a huge success was an invitation by an older man to stop by his building after the sale. So, when we were finished and all loaded up, we followed this guy quite a ways to his storage building.

Let me stop here and say, our Fairy Junk Mother was totally looking out for us!!**

The storage building wasn't huge, but it was hiding lots of good junk!! It was not organized. Everything was piled on top of each other. When you moved one thing, you revealed another. It was like Christmas morning for us junkers! It was a tough decision, but here are my 5 favorite finds:

We had a blast. The adventure is such a huge part of junking and an adventure we did have. More tomorrow....maybe even a giveaway!!!!

This past Saturday I went to one of my dearest friend's new apartment. When I walked into her living room my eyes immediately were drawn to the mantle where 3 of these beautiful frames were sitting. Now, I usually like all things old and try not to buy new accessories, but I am loving these vintage inspired photo frames by O'brien Schridde Designs.

The distressed, weathered, vintage look has had me dreaming of these frames for 4 days now. I have been pestering my poor friend to send me the link to their website. There was no way I could NOT share these beautiful handmade designs with you. An investment they are, but when they hold precious memories of family...priceless I say. Spring Market Photos

I'm back......... finally things are getting back to normal around here. Our Spring Vintage Market was an amazing success. After a week of prepping in the rain. Come market day the sun shined bright. It was the fairest of them all! We got to meet some facebook and blog friends who made it out to the market. A huge thank you to all of our wonderful customers. We love what we do and the greatest payback is to see all of the happy faces and everyone digging the cool junk we've rescued. I put together a little photo video for your viewing pleasure.

Our next vintage market isn't until October, but we are so excited to announce that we are headed up to the Junk Bonanza this September!!

No junking this past weekend, but we planted lots of funky pumpkins for our Fall Market. Keep your fingers crossed and you just might get to take one home this October.

Can You Tell?

So sorry for my lack of blogging lately. Can you tell our market is only a week from Sat. We are busy little junkers, just working away! Lots of sanding, washing, repurposing, designing is going on around here. We would love to see you May 15th and 16th. Come see what we've been up to!

A Repurposing Kinda Day

It's Earth Day or the unofficial junker's holiday. You see us junkers do our part everyday. We help cleanup Mother Earth with every piece of junk we rescue!

To celebrate the day, here is a little repurposed junk project. An old rusty sprinkler and a little wire makes a pretty sweet photo and note holder we think!

Tonight's Junk Club

Tonight's Junk Club is gonna be fun!! We are making our salvaged wire note boards. It's not a crazy intensive project, but we like to create fun and different junk, plus you get to go home with a super cool piece that you create! Today will be consumed by baking, chopping, and a little cleaning.

This time I really didn't decide on our menu until yesterday, which is cutting it way to close. So, for this evenings menu our junkies will be served:)

Home Sweet Home

It has been insanity around here!!! Last week the junk hunk and I hit the road for a 3 state junking trip! Wow, it was intense. We had a great time finding some unique and cool junk. Our metal barn is full and our other barn is full of projects. We have a month to go before our spring market and we'll need every second!! Of course, we'll have to squeeze in a little more junking too. You can never pass up a good junking opportunity!

We got back home on Sunday. Then it was time for me to get serious and to our tax work. Yes, we totally procrastinated! It's done now for another year. Yippy!!

Moving forward....our April Junk Club is tomorrow night. Salvaged wire note boards is what we will be creating. Our menu for the evening I am still deciding. I can't make up my mind! For desert it will be a lemon poppyseed cake with a dusting of powdered sugar on top...yummy!

I have to admit when it comes to taking pictures of what we got on our junking trips I fail miserably. We are always in such a hurry whether its loading or unloading. Maybe I'll just take a picture of everything piled up in our building!

There is a little place that we have nicknamed Junk Heaven! It is our one junking spot that we keep a total secret. A dear friend passed this place along to us and said shhhhh don't tell! So of course we have respected her wishes. Plus, we couldn't give directions to this heavenly place even if we wanted to because there are so many twists and turns. Many of you have heard us talk about it. If any of you watch American Pickers on the History channel it's like some of places they dig through. It's amazing!! So, the junk hunk is still asleep. I am waiting to hook up to the trail and get our booties there!! Daylight is burning, but a happy junk hunk makes a happy vintage vixen! I'm envisioning a spectacular trip. One of those where you load the back of the pickup, plus the trailer, and bury yourself inside with all of your treasures. Ya know what I mean!

We had an amazing junk club last night. I am constantly inspired with what our junkies create at these events. Pictures will come, but I gotta get on the road to junk heaven. Off to go wake up the junk hunk...... it's almost 8:30....what the !@#%!

Getting Ready

Our March Junk Club is this Friday. I've been gear up for it!! The mailman delivered some of the yummiest supplies the other day. I have been wanting this beautiful bakers twine forever and junk club was the perfect excuse to order it!! Seriously, the colors are so bright and fresh. LOVE IT!! Then some fun and funky japanese tape came too, Embellishing these little journals is going to be so much fun! I need to grab a few more basic supplies, but the project is looking good!

Next, last night I finally decided on our menu for the evening. How does this junk food sound? It sounded super yummy to me, so thats that!

I always enjoy coming up with the menu and try to be thoughtful of what the season has to offer. Summer is the most fun because I can use garden fresh produce from Old Crow. Anyways, then there is the least favorite thing still on the list CLEANING. So, this junker is gonna be busy the next few days. Then maybe a trip to Junk Heaven to celebrate the weekend!!

Paper or Plastic?

I'll take paper! Ok girls I may be obsessed. Ephemera is one of the most beautiful things. Whenever I can get my hands on it I do. It's so nice to have around, especially when your in a pinch and need a little added something to a project. I've been making these little paper sacks and can't get enough of them. Big, small, wide, or narrow they all come out a little different. Then finding that perfect junk embellishment for that little finishing touch is too fun. I use them for gift bags, note sleeves, and anything else I can fit in them. Since I have been obsessing over them I thought it was time to share the obsession!! Lets just say I have wanted to play around with Photoshop FOREVER. However, Photoshop is out of this junkers price range! So, I decided to download a trial version. It probably wasn't the greatest of ideas for a few reasons. First, it is not an easy program to just jump right in and know exactly what your doing. Secondly, now I want it even more!! This lovely design was created and inspired by the beauty of old tarnished spoons. I must say I really like it. There is just something about its fresh and bright look. Just maybe it might be making it's appearance in some shape or form on Etsy and at Old Crow's May Market! xoxo,jojo

Better Than Flowers

Girls love getting flowers, right? Well, this girl does like her flowers, but give her junk and you've stole her heart. My junk hunk knows me so well. He came home the other night wheeling this awesome cart in the door. Instantly my eye's lit up and my heart was a flutter! He said "I thought you might like this to be your work table?" It is perfect!! I have wanted a mobile work table forever. Something I can wheel from room to room. Now I can follow my girls as they play. We, in our spare time, were going to make something similar to this. But, for 1 thing we never seem to find the time to work on projects for ourselves and 2nd of all this cart is industrial sweetness!!!! What's even better is he snagged this hottie for FREE!!! So, big thank you to my junk hunk.

The big project for this weekend is organizing our storage building so we can bring in more junk and checking out a local auction. Should be a normal crazy weekend @ Old Crow!

All of you are the most amazingly kind people!! Thank you so much for your sweet words and congrats. We are so lucky to have great friends and customers like you. Kasey and I do Old Crow because we have fun and love it, but what is most rewarding is the happiness we bring to others through junk. We are hard at work packaging and shipping everyones junk! Hope to do some junking of our own tonight and this weekend.

Favorite Occasional Sales!

This afternoon Kasey came home with a copy of Flea Market Style. We actually sat on the couch together and flip through it, so sweet I know! We are so excited that we got a mention in the magazine. Check out page 12. Old Crow is listed as one of their favorite occasional sales!!!

As we flipped through the pages we noticed a section devoted to old funnels. Now, if you have been to our sales before you may have noticed a few, maybe several, ok a lot of funnels! My junk hunk has funnel fetish. He thinks their totally cool. This past summer one of our dearest friends and a member of our Crow Crew was teasing us about how many funnels we had. Do I share?

Yesterday afternoon I had to make a quick trip into town. I left the girls with Kasey. Oh how I love those few precious minutes of quiet time. Me, myself, and I decided to swing by a little shop that I hadn't been to in awhile. It was so nice to just look around, take my time, with no distractions! I stumbled upon this little ironstone piece. Many of you know my love affair with ironstone. I can't pass it up! Especially if its worn and crackley. Once upon a time it must have had the most beautiful lid, but most likely was broken at some point and it's delicate little handles too. I had to bring it home. To make it even sweeter the shop owner gave me $2 off. I love me a good bargin!! So, now the dilemma...do I keep it for myself or share it with my customers who also adore ironstone? Right now its awaiting some beautiful Spring flowers. We'll have to see if I can part with it.

I heart Repurposing!

We heart repurposing! Junking and repurposing just go together. So, on this lovely Friday I thought I would share two super easy repurposed shelving ideas! We kinda like to be different and try new, easy, and fun things on our walls. While out on our junk hunts we see lots of old child ironing boards. Some are metal and some are wood, it doesn't matter. When it came time to decorate Ella's room this one was sitting in there and the "ah ha" moment happened. Lets put it on the wall. So of course the Junk Hunk made it happen! It only holds a few things, but we think its super cute. However, I think we need to move it because jumping on the bed seems like a lot of fun to the girls these days and I'm afraid their going to bump their heads!

Same thing happened with this idea. We were setting up Lulu's room and this mid century plant stand was just sitting there. I think by placing it on the wall it shows of the modern design really well and it's a great space saver too! Next time your thinking you need some shelving don't forget to check out your junk pile. There might just be the perfect thing waiting.

We made it through another week. I always look forward to the weekends because thats when we get our junk on! Lately, Kasey has stayed home with the girls while I go out on junk hunts, but tomorrow grandma is watching the girls, so both of us get to play, it's always more fun!!

Often times we highlight big pieces we've rescued, but today, I thought the little guys should get some attention. Ironstone platters, one of our biggest weaknesses. Letters & numbers too! Its always nice to have these good old basics when working on projects.

Cinnamon & Sugar

We are huge cinnamon & sugar fans. Our girls love it on toast on these cold winter mornings. As, you all know we have been having some crazy weather this winter. Last week it was an ice storm and this week was a blizzard, no joke! We ended up staying at my mom's so we didn't get snowed in again. This is where this little cute cinnamon shaker calls home. I have seen it at her house many times, but for some reason this particular day I have decided I must have it! It is a hoosier cupboard spice jar. It is too cute and I want one for our C&S. Ephemera Journals

Ok, really I was very indecisive about Junk Club this month. We will create 3 mini journals/notebooks on club night. I always try to be season appropriate and really thoughtful about the project of the month. In January we all are trying to reorganize and regroup after the holiday craziness, so I wanted to pick something that would help us do that. After debating many projects I decide these mini journals would be just perfect.

As with all of our junk clubs a mini dinner and drinks are included. I like to think of it as a time to relax, create, and laugh with other junkers. We always have so much fun! If you want more details click here. We have 8 spots available!

Cabin Fever

Is there anybody out there? I am a prisoner in my own house. Snowed in...... waiting for the plow to come by. We had another 6 or so inches of snow on Wednesday. Followed by 40mph winds, which lead to major drifting!! My junk hunk couldn't even make it home yesterday. And now we are in the deep freeze!

I don't care what the weather is tomorrow, jojo is going junking!!!! Do you hear that Old Man Winter? I am leaving my house!!!!!! That is if the plow comes by.....

Happy New Year!

I hope all of you had a beautiful holiday season. The craziness is over, things are quieting down, and HA! That's a nice thought, but things around here are always crazy. We have lots to do and learn in this new year.

One of my goals this year is to master the art of soldering! I was a lucky little girl and got all the equipment needed for Christmas. Kasey and I both made our first creations. They will be making their appearance soon.

Happy Holidays From Old Crow!

I must be on Santa's naughty list, as it has been well over a month since my last post.

It was not my intention to leave you hanging about the nickname. So here it is......Drum roll.........Vintage Vixen will be my name. Sassy I think!

At the beginning of December we had our 2nd annual Jolly Junk event. It was magical! We had the wood burning stove with a roaring fire. The building was fully of jolly holiday shoppers. We had a wonderful day and wanted to share share it with you. Hope you enjoy!

The Pretty Little Houses

Right around this time last year I fell in love with these little vintage holiday houses. Seriously, I think they are so sweet. Produced in Germany, Japan, and Italy too. Made of cardboard they stole my heart! The junk hunk wasn't as excited as I, but ya know. Many of you spotted them at our Jolly Junk sale last year and started your own mini villages. I have been crazily buying more of these little paper houses because I just can't get enough. Be sure to keep your eye open for these paper perfections at Jolly Junk!

I can't wait for Saturday aka Junk Day. I have my eye on a sweet sale...shhh! But, before that day comes I will be nurse to my junk hunk as he is getting all 4 of his wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow. Oh Christmas Tree

Jolly, merry, and bright we are in full Christmas mode getting ready for Jolly Junk. I know Halloween hasn't even made its appearance yet, but the funky junky elves are hard at work! We created this whimsical winter tree on Saturday afternoon. The idea just popped in my head and within the hour our whimsy winter tree was born! I love those "ah ha" moments! Of course I couldn't wait to share:)

I must confess that I have broken the cardinal rule of blogging. I forgot to take pictures of my junk collection from Saturday. Shame on me! Sometimes I am so bad about that. It was quality over quantity. There was a yummy pie safe that had to come home with me, a white shabby metal table, some ephemera, old brass jingle bells, two cute tarnished ringy dingy service bells, and some other odds and ends.

Need a Junk Fix

I am in need of a major junk fix!! I've been doing a little junking here and there, but I am craving a good farm auction!! It has been a little while and now that are sale is over watch out jojo is ready to JUNK!! I have found a sale for Saturday and I am super excited. Hopefully I will come home with a big load!! Keep your fingers crossed for some good pictures.

On another note, last night we attend JB Knackers Entrepreneur Night as part of the panel. It was an awesome evening of shopping, eating, and connecting with others. I am hoping another evening will be in the works, as I think there is so much information to share and one great evening left us wanting more.

Things at the farm are crazy as always. We are gearing up for our 2nd Annual Jolly Junk event on Dec. 5th. Gather your family and friends and please join us in starting a new holiday junking tradition!

Harvest Market 09'

We are so blessed to have the best customers ever!! When I woke up Saturday morning I could see snowflakes falling from the glow of the porch light. I didn't think much of it at the time, but when I headed outside to get last minute sale stuff done I realized that it was sticking to the ground and everything had a fluffy coat of fresh snow on it. At which point I was hoping, really hoping, that the element of snow would just make our market that much more fun and memorable and it was!!

Kasey and I greeted all of our hardcore junkers at 9:00 and the crazy crow madness began. After all of our hard work it is so much fun and so rewarding to see all of you having fun and finding that little something that you can't live without.

Many of you asked if we would be having our Jolly Junk Market this December and the answer is YES!! Your funky junky elves are reporting in and can hardly wait to create some fun holiday junk!

We are sooo excited! DIY Magazine asked yours truly to create a project for their Shopgirl article. So, Kasey and I got to be in a photo shoot with our project and we made it to the Winter Issue. Scheduled to be on newsstands any day. Here is a sneak peak at the cover and our article. We created an ice bucket stand using a galvanized bucket, pipe, and old bicycle gears. The Pumpkins...

The pumpkins were hung by the porch with care! One of the many things we do around Old Crow to get ready for our Harvest Junk Market is setting the atmosphere. We are busy collecting the perfect pumpkins to fill our hanging buckets that line our front porch. Junkie our scarecrow is getting kind of lonely so we need to find him the perfect pumpkin friends. We always line our old vintage feeders full of straw and pumpkins too. I am so happy to say that we have collected many of those feeders this summer, so you can have your pick of many!! We will be headed to the fields soon to gather our corn shocks and to the timber to find those funky cool green hedge apples. I love those thingys. When you arrive on market day, October 10th & 11th(just incase you forgot), our rescued treasures will be overflowing with harvested goodies. Some warm apple cider too, that sounds good! Does time ever sneak up on you and say BOO!!! At 9:08 this morning it happened to me! I knew our sale is three weeks away, but then I looked at the calendar and it scared me!! We have been working for weeks and still have a lot to do, but thats normal! What's not normal is for me to completely have lost track of time to get our flyers,mailers, and newspaper advertising out and ready!! So, you all know now what I will be doing for the next few days. Tag Your It!

Before every sale one big task is making our Old Crow tags. We hand make each and every one. Just regular white tags when they start, but after dirtying them up a bit the look like these little pretties. You are looking at 400 tags and more are in the making. This isn't the finished product though. We still have to put the Old Crow stamp on all of them. It is quite a process, but we love how they look and adds a finishing touch to our rescued junk!

Only 3 weeks left until our Fall Market and we have lots to do, so we are headed to the barn to work work work! Happy Junking! jojo

Hello!! I'm baaack :) Yes, I took the summer off, blogging that is. I thought the best way to kick

off the new blog season would be to jibber jabber about our junk club last Friday. We made this junky FALL display. This was more of a technical club nite as our junkies had to sand their own boards, and clear coat there springs and wire. Then we made our cool grungy FALL tags too. Of course in between all of this work we had some good food and laughs. As always thanks girls for a great time! However, the night did not end there! Shortly after everyone left we got the phone call. A couple of our junkies had blown a tire close to our farm, so into the night Kasey and I went to the rescue. When we arrived, our entire junk club minus 1, were on the side of the road for moral support, it was hilarious!! The Junk Hunk changed the tire and everyone was off. It will be a long time before any of us forget this club nite. Here's some pictures from the nite and we also have video of the roadside rescue that I will try to upload too! This morning I am enjoying the view. One of the reasons I had to have our house was because of this view. I am sitting at our little picnic table listening to the birds singing, the buzz of a bumble bee, and a gentle breeze keeps me cool.

Thanks to wireless internet this is my outdoor studio today! If it doesn't storm that is. Perfect the girls can play, I can work, and we're all happy!

Good morning! Ok, so when my 3 yr old does something bad I send her to the naughty chair. So I am officially sending myself there as well! For some reason this summer I have been terrible about blogging! I hate that I haven't been and my good old catholic italian guilt has set in. I'm sure you all are like what the heck has happened to jojo? I'm just busy like all the rest of you girls, buy I just haven't been blogging about! Sham on me:(

Ok, so what have we been up to? Junking all the time! Our next sale in a month away, I can't believe it. We have accumulated junk, but we need more!!! Eat, Sleep, Breath Junk. Thats whats up! Some of my favorite finds so far : another railroad cart, some old wood cuppalas, feeders, a sweet teal and white table, of course metal metal & metal, and chippy wood stuff.

We took a trip back to junk heaven and add some goodies to our piles below. OMG how could I forget to tell about what happen while in junk heaven. We knew that there was a barn that we had yet to search and rescue. So, we took the long walk through the horse weeds and Nettles, which by this time of the summer are seriously taller than me. Finally, we arrive at this barn. For the most part its empty, but we found a neat little metal handmade stool, some chippy wood drawers, and ......some treasures up top that we had to leave for another day b/c.......as I was on my rescue mission Kasey all of a sudden says STOP. I turned around and he said SHHHHH. You could hear this low and long hissing/growling. We tried to scare it away for a quite a while, but it didn't move and we couldn't see what it was, so we will have to go back for what' up above.

Drum roll.......This little do da is used for clam fishing. It is a part of a clam trap!I would never have guessed it myself. I think the old man I bought them from wasa little upset that I wasn't going to use them for their actual purpose, but last timeI knew we didn't have a whole lotta clams in Iowa!

Schools Out...Junk On

Schools out forever! Yesterday afternoon we rushed over to a high school that we heard was being torn down asap. We didn't know what to expect. Most of the goodies had been taken, but we managed to come away with a truck load. Our favorite metal stuff is what sits in the back of the truck. Some old metal blue carts 2 tall and one short, a couple of science lab stools, cool galvanized rack with rusty hooks, a classic school clock, and few others. If we had been really prepared we would have brought our power tools. I so wanted to take the metal letters that spelled "High School" off the building, but they were bolted into the cement. I even tried giving that puppy dog look to the junk hunk, but he said there was no way we could get it. Sadly they we will be gone. Don't ya just hate that!!! Especially letters, one of my many weaknesses. Hope everyone has an awesome day. Happy Junking!!

Hmmm yes, I have been very silent lately. Trying to get back on track. We haven't been doing a ton of junking the past few weeks since our sale. Sometimes you have to stop and take care of home life. It's been nice. We have our veggie garden pretty much done, well as done as its gonna get. This year we wanted to make raised beds and you know every project always takes longer than expected. Our little Ella is such the farmer. She loves to play in the dirt, yet just this morning she wanted here little toes painted. A girlie girl and farm girl at heart. So, yes we've been selfish and taking a little time for stuff around the farm. I purchased this sweet shelving unit @ JB knacker(most awesome shop ever!), but the frame was brown. So we painted it with this splash of sunshine and I absolutely love it. It sits in our living room. Thanks Brenda!!

Like I said no hard core junking has taken place. Which means we haven't looked to hard for anything, but we did get a load in Winterset the other day. An old gate, shutters, a sweet little primitive bench, a wooden cuppala, some chippy lattice, feeders, little vintage bottles, and some mid century racks. After that little trip, a very friendly little birdie showed us the way to another little place where we found: old traffic signs, a few cool milk crates, old street signs, and some rusty little baskets. So, 2 pick up loads not too bad! This weekend is the kick off to hard core junking! I think the junk hunk & I may have to go two different directions to take advantage of all the junk happenings. I will post a few later to day or tomorrow.

Nothing like the longest post ever! Thats what I get for not posting in a week. Our little junk shop on Etsy has been keeping us super busy too. We just celebrated our 100th sale! When we started we didn't know what to expect and now I'm seriously addicted!

Friday's Junk Club

As Robyn one of our junkies said "We came, We junked, We had a great time". It was a beautiful spring evening, perfect for the junk project I had planned. We refunked some old safety deposit boxes into vibrant summer planters. When the girls first arrived we painted the metal boxes bright greens, blues, yellow, and red. Then dipped our little old white painted fence picket into chalkboard paint for a garden chic plant marker. We had to get right to business as our paint needed to dry for our 2nd phase of the project. While the paint was drying it was time to shop & eat! A couple of my favorite things to do!

Are you ready? Ok, here was the menu for the evening: Chicken Salad, Classic Deviled Eggs, Fresh Tomato Mozzarella Salad, Cucumber Bites with a fresh herb cream spread, and then the desserts: Fresh Rhubarb Bars & Shortbread cookies. All homemade I was very busy in the kitchen!

Once we had eaten it was time to fill our planters with flowers and add old skeleton keys to our plant markers. We had a great bunch of junkies come to the farm. There was lots of laughs, smiles, and good times. And yes we're doing it all again on June 19th. The theme Junk IT In Stone.

The rest of our holiday weekend has been relaxing. We are working on our garden and have a fun family party planned for today. Making A Difference Day

I had no idea that today in the Des Moines area was Making A Difference Day. My girls and I were paying for groceries today and my total was $50 less than it was supposed to be!! The manager explained to me that a woman had purchased 4 $50 gift certificates and she wanted to help pay for 4 peoples groceries today. Specifically, mothers with children. I was so deeply touched. I seriously had tears in my eyes when the manager told me. It was such a simple act of kindness pure and sweet. After we loaded groceries in our truck it was lunch time, so we headed to McDonalds, as we always do when we are out running errands. It was my turn to make a difference. I purchased a gift card at the golden arches and told them to pay for as peoples lunches as it could. It felt so incredibly awesome! There is nothing more meaningful than the gift of kindness. I hope this inspires you and puts a huge smile on your face. Pay it forward!! xoxo jojo

Spring Fling!

Finally, I present to you our Spring Fling!! We were running around crazy for a week. Friday is always our setup day and unfortunately it was very wet, but we managed. We had our best sale ever and an awesome turn out.

We want to give a huge Thank You to all of our wonderful customers & fans. We love what we do and you make it possible! So many of you came up to us with such sweet comments. You all will never know how much it means to us. This is our passion & we love to see everyone having so much fun!!

We are gearing up for our 2nd junk club this Friday nite & then we're off on our next junk adventure to find more goodies for the next OC sale!! xoxo jojo

Finally Flea Market Finds

Finally! What you've been waiting for...

My mom & I got to What Cheer at 7 ish on Friday morning. Brrr it was cold, wet, and windy, but we managed :) I had to go see my junk guy first and I had no problem making a pile. I think I made some good choices as people were trying to shop out of my pile of junk. I got some cool metal feeders, great table top, 3 big windows that will make a great room divider, and a metal cupboard. After we left the junk guy we made our way through the wonderland of junk. I was on the hunt for metal totes and totes I did find. My most exciting piece is a sweet old railroad cart which should transform into a rockin coffee table! Lots of fun we had & loads of junk we found! Thanks for an awesome day mama! Happy junking to all! jojo

Fresh Flowers

I love flowers and my junk hunk and Ella Rose surprised me with this simple arrangement(minus few tulips the cat ate!)

Its back to business today. Lot to do I need to stain and stamp our price tags. The house will smell yummy with the aroma of coffee,vanilla, & cinnamon when I am done. Then I need to print & cut more sale flyers. Many little to-do's.

We are headed to the Whatcheer flea market. It never disappoints, even if it is wet & muddy. I will take lots of pics, if I remember my camera that is. I'm terrible at forgetting it! On The Eve of My Big 3 0

I know this has nothing to do with junk, but this is one of the big things happening in my little world. Tomorrow, I turn the big 30 and I'm dreading it, but am embracing a fresh start too! Many have said it's just a number and really I know it is, but its kinda sad to say good by to my young and crazy 20's. Looking a head it's so nice to know I am happy & settled. I have a wonderful husband, 2 fun & spunky little girls, and I get to do what I love Junk. What a way to start the next chapter! I would love to hear any words of wisdom or just some funny talk to celebrate my BIG 30. Thank you to all my devoted readers. Look to your right. Do you see it. This is the our new version of Junk Jibberish. I felt like we had to many things going on and I wanted to consolidate. This new version allows you to have live trash talk with your fellow junkers. Its not exactly the same as a message board, but I think its better. If you know of sales going on just post it and I will gather them and make a master list. No Work~All Play

AHHH! There is work do be done? No way! The junk hunk & I had decided no more weekend junking until after our sale. The remaining weekends are devoted to funking up all our junk. Well, I had to make an exception. Sometimes you have to break the rules. Remember my little junk spot that was no more, well they auctioned off all of his junk this past Saturday and I couldn't pass it up. It was now or never. I arrived at the sale @ 9:30am(in the rain) to look things over and I didn't return home until 7:30pm! What a long day, but what a good haul we got! 2 pick up loads full and a trailer full!!! Can you believe it, I was totally surprised.

Then came Sunday, finally we got to work! Sanding, scrapping, hammering........ all day! Um we didn't even scratch the surface. We will be busy little funky junky elves in our workshop for the next 3 weeks! NO MORE SALES. I'm not going to even look,peak, or glance at any kind of advertisement, sale bill, or paper ........ I'm not listening. Don't tempt me please. Which is really disappointing because Kay over @ Barntiques is opening her barn doors this Saturday. Bum me! I'll have to see if my sweet mama will go check things out for me! Jo Mama are you reading this???

I'll save more of my ramblings for tomorrow.

Upon request here is the recipe for the Lime Cupcakes. Are you ready? Its so super easy!

1 box of white cake mix and make as directed

& add

1 tablespoon Lime zest ( depending on how limey you want add more or less)

Frosting: Is from Rachel Ray here is the recipe

Instead of adding the milk I just added fresh lime juice.

Top with a little more zest and there you have Lime Cupcakes.

This is a perfect example of how good food doesn't have to be hard to prepare. Yummo! jojo

Burn Piles Should Be Banned!

These sweet arch pieces and rocker were almost burn victims. My junk hunk says I'm dramatic, hmmm I wonder why? Anyways, my mother in law called me this morning and said that a lady from church wanted to know if we wanted these pieces, otherwise she was lighting the match! OMG STOP DRoP & Roll. Yes we will take them. These beauties will be a nice addition to our Spring Fling Sale. As junkers I think its our responsibility to teach others the danger of playing with matches. Just say no to burn piles! Until you call your favorite junkers that is. Happy junking. jojo

Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

For a couple of years now I have been going to this sweet secret junk spot and only on Tuesday mornings. I don't go every Tuesday, but I always know its an option. So, today I packed the girls up in the truck and we were off to our sweet junk spot. When I pulled in the drive nothing was out of ordinary, but my junk guy didn't come out to greet me. So I knocked on the door and his wife came out. I seriously thought he had passed away suddenly or something, but everything was fine. However, she told me that they had sold the house and they were packing up and moving to town. No more sweet junk spot?! I was devastated and seriously wanted to cry! What will Tuesdays be like with out having the option of going to this sweet spot. So I am left to mourn my Tuesday morning junk jaunts. When one door closes another opens...I'm waiting, I'm still waiting! Hope you all had a great day. Happy junking! jojo

Happy Easter!

We have a full day planned! As we speak Kasey is doing the dirt work for our almost completed building. Yippy!! Yesterday, Kasey and his friends got the roof up! This building is a necessity at this point because our barn is oh so full!

I am baking an Oatmeal cake with a almond and coconut topping at this very moment. The easter baskets are full. We will celebrate with family later this morning. Hope you all have a wonderful day! Its a beautiful spring day here. xoxo jojo
